Lamprice.... yeah not Lamb Rice

When I saw this dish on the menu in a Lankan restaurant, I thought it is Lamb Rice. Maybe they got the spelling wrong for a dish of rice and lamb..... but nooooo it is Lamprice - a Sri Lankan speciality.
Actually the dish is nothing special.... its the packaging which makes it special.... It comes packed in banana leaf.... the leaf is roasted or rather heated over the flame... this gives a special flavour to the rice and and also a distinct smell....
In the leaf they pack something like a yellow spicy fried rice, chicken curry, a boiled egg, vegetable masala made of eggplant and a nice chutney which is a little sour or tangy...
According to a Sri Lankan friend the chutney is the best part of Lamprice.... and they are supposed to have a cutlet also, which this restaurant didn't give.... may be cost cutting...
This is not really a dish, its more like a meal... as kids we used to take these kind of stuff on our overnight train journeys.....  Worth a try...
If anyone wants to try... head to Salamath Lanka at Old Airport. Only available during weekends.
