direction to village

many are asking how to get to the new restaurant... i underestimated the number of fans for sugar cane juice.... so here is the direction... enjoooyyy

If you are going from C-Ring road cross Al Ahli hospital and take a U-turn from TV round about. Once you cross the Town Centre (KFC) take the service road and on your right hand side you will see the restaurant nested inside a block of buildings... drive slowly and keep looking right.... u wont miss it...
Its opposite the Nissan service centre...

u will get an approx idea from this map

ganna (sugar cane) juice in Doha

There is good news for all sugar cane juice fans in doha -- there is a new restaurant, The Garden Village restaurant, which serves tasty sugar cane juice - clean and untouched by hand... I tried it last week and it was GOOD. The restaurant looks okay and service is pretty good... I didnt like the artificial flowers...
Its opposite the nissan service centre next to Al ahli hospital . Their menu is impressive -- mostly Indian stuff. The good thing is that they have Goan and Mangalorian food. Will try it next time. Meanwhile, the juice is highly recommended.

The juice corner, The sugar cane is cleaned, cut and ready to be crushed in the special machine. Notice the plastic flowers in the corner ;-) they look so tacky. Luckly the place is pretty large, so that you can sit real far away from those flowers hehe.

The machine spits out the waste after crushing. It really swueezes out everything the cane has.

not for the faint hearted ;-) PG rated

a scene from the local supermarket....

I hope this wont haunt me the next time I order my fav brain fry from the Pakistani joint Qutba... The food there is fantastic but not very healthy unless you are a marathon runner who can burn of the entire fat in a day's work...

Lunch at Udipi International

Gujarati Thali at the newly opened Udipi International - a pure veg restaurant. The undhiyu was good... kadi okay okay... overall good fare...  decor was nice and music was typical south indian instrumental...  and the best part --- not expensive...
here is a photo of the gujju thali... worth a try...

Opened 2 months back in a difficult to find area... this veggie joint is welcome change to the food scene.. a must visit for all veggies

Friday Breakfast

death by omelette

Breakfast at Ric's Country Kitchen:
A good option to indulge in once in while. Leave your diet and calorie count outside the door. They have some scary stuffs like "Death by Omelette" - the name says it all. The breakfast combos are huge and interesting. Death by omelette was so, so. The salsa filling inside the omelette didn't jell well with the egg.
The texan breakfast was good and filling. Their pancakes are decent but I didn't like the biscuit much. Quick and efficient service, but not very friendly... the smile is missing but the promptness makes up for that. Breakfast for two with drinks or coffee will cost you QR90. The atmosphere is very casual and cool. They also serve steaks and burgers. More on that on a later post.
This is one place we keep visiting -  but not very regularly....
